Wow!! August is here and I am looking forward to teaching Grade Three in September!! But first I want to congratulate the Grade Two-Three class of 2018 on a fantastic year! Thank you all so much for working so hard and finishing the year well!! I also want to thank you for all the wonderful cards and gifts that were given to me in June. I shared most of them with my family and they were very thankful, too.
I pray that you are all having a wonderful summer and I'll see many of you in September!!
Ms. Rowden
Bible Memory To be announced soon!
Language Arts We are finished reviewing all that was learned last year and have also finished reading about frogs, writing about frogs, and investigating frogs!
We worked our way through some fascinating stories about the Bible, missionaries, historical figures and some very funny fictional stories and poems.
Math In this class we spell math FUN!
We have completed our review so now it will be really fun! We have learned the Order Property of addition and reading and writing six-digit numbers! We have learned about multiplication and division! The Grade Threes will continue with these skills and begin to multiply two and three digit numbers as well as learn long division! The Grade Twos learned about regrouping in two digit addition and subtraction questions!
We also learned about two and three dimensional shapes as well as angles! What fun we're had!! We learned about fractions and decimals. Yippee!!
The goal is to have everyone master the + and - facts to 18 as well as multiplication facts to 5x5 for the Grade Twos and 12x12 for the Grade Threes as quickly as possible. Mastery of these facts will help us tremendously as we continue to learn about numbers!!
Science andSocial Studies Most of our Science and Social Studies units will be combined. We will be covering the new Learning Standards for both of these subjects as well as many from English Language Arts in our units.
We are finished our mapping unit and learned about Canada's newest territory, Nunavut! We created our brochures about our favourite Arctic animal and learned a bit about the people who live in Nunavut. We learned about traditional and modern ways of life in our northern territories.
We also learned a bit about Ecuador, it's people, animals and biomes!
We learned about matter and atoms!
We have completed our unit called All About Me! We found out about each other as well as how to keep our bodies healthy and safe. We reviewed fire safety and earthquake procedures. We set goals for healthy eating and healthy living.
Important Reminders
Please remember that our school is nut-free, kiwi fruit-free and latex-free.
Please read the weekly calendar and the note your child brings home on Mondays for more information.
It is hoped that your child will do 20-30 minutes of homework most days. This could include Bible memory, spelling review, math facts practice or assigned work. Reading is too much fun to be called homework but it is expected that the students will read every day! These skills could be practiced and reviewed in many different ways (board games, card games, worksheets, websites, in the car, curled up in a cozy chair, walking in the forest, ...). Let your imagination run wild!
For more information please read the Newsletters that are emailed to you and the note that goes home (most) Mondays.
